World BioEconomy Forum talks on climate – live from Ruka!

The World BioEconomy Forum season 2022 has begun and it will be culminated in the annual conference in Ruka, Finland on 07 - 09 September 2022. The season will pave the way for the first bioeconomy conference to take place after the Northern Hemisphere summer.

This season marks the 5th edition since its establishment in 2018. The latest annual conference was organised in Belém, Brazil last autumn.   

During this season, the World BioEconomy Forum wants to raise key discussions on the role of the bioeconomy and bioproducts in mitigating climate change. In the Forum we think that bioeconomy and bioproducts act as additional tools in combatting climate change. Consequently, the annual conference is named: The World BioEconomy Forum talks on climate – live from Ruka! The theme will be reiterated throughout the events of the season 2022, and it will be also featured in the annual Declaration.

Jukka Kantola shares his thoughts: “I’m extremely happy that we are bringing the Forum back to Ruka! This is in line with our strategy of commuting between the Southern and Northern hemispheres. Ruka, surrounded by pristine nature sensitive to any climate change, provides an excellent setting to discuss our 2022 season theme. The Forum, which will be a hybrid event, will also celebrate its 5th anniversary – Bioeconomy Celebrates Nature!” 

The Forum 2022 will be held as a hybrid event and the programme is organised according to the Four-Pillar Structure.

The Four-Pillar Structure of the World BioEconomy Forum

The Forum operates under a strict, Four-Pillar Structure: I The Bioeconomy: People, Planet, Policies, II Global Leaders and the Financial World, III Bioproducts Around Us and IV Looking to the Future. Using the Four-Pillar Structure enables the complete evaluation of the status of the circular bioeconomy and so facilitates developments across the whole of the sector. This makes the Forum and its activities extremely powerful and effective, facilitating a holistic bioeconomy and making significant joint efforts in the mitigation of climate change.      

All Forum programmes and activities are aligned with the Four-Pillar Structure, including all Roundtables and the annual Declaration. This four-pillar structure ensures that all relevant stakeholders in the circular bioeconomy have a voice and a platform.

The World BioEconomy Forum and partners are launching a survey on the formation of a global hub to serve the bioeconomy sector. The aim of the hub is to encourage dialogue relating to all important matters concerning the global bioeconomy as well as its challenges and opportunities. The survey will allow stakeholders across the globe to advise and inform as to what the topics and subjects the hub should be comprised of. The bioeconomy is set to become a major economic stream in the future, and therefore will require growing international collaboration between the various parties.

World BioEconomy Forum talks on bioeconomy – live from the UNFCCC COP27!

The World BioEconomy Forum was invited to the UNFCCC COP27 to take part in a bioeconomy panel organised by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). This is the very first time the subject of bioeconomy has been discussed as a part of the official programme in the Blue Zone. The panel discussion will be held on 17 November starting at 5pm local time.
